Hi, I’m Lindsey! If you’re just getting introduced to me and my work, here’s a bit about my journey.
My story begins with growing up with an entrepreneurial and farming background, with the ethos that anything is possible with the right attitude and hard work. Creating and exploring local manufacturing and product development during my life has really underpinned my passions.
I went on to explore these themes, obtaining a degree in International Development from the University of Guelph. Here I focused on sustainability and business relations in agriculture.
Moving to the home farm in 2020, I had a space to reconnect with my agricultural roots. Growing up my Opa raised sheep so being back was a bit of a full circle moment. That was when I decided to purchase a small flock. Remembering shearing days on the farm I already knew I wanted to use my own wool. But for what? I began experimenting and exploring all things wool and fibre, loving the freedom and process of creating.
Soon after I created Field & Fleece documenting my journey through the world of Ontario wool with my small flock.
After a lot of hands-on processing and experimenting, I was at a bit of a loss with the amount of wool there actually was!
That led me further into the reality of the near endless supply of farm wool, where producers face a daunting challenge of finding value. So I decided to focus on networking and creating a value added product that would be able to accommodate the differences in wool clip, poorer quality fleece and the ability to use larger quantities of available raw wool.
Although traditional wool avenues primarily focus on yarn and textile creation my experiences led me in a bit of a different direction.
These combined experiences inspired me to create WoolGrown that focuses on creating a a product range that can be used in diverse applications. I’m excited to introduce this on-going work in finding new and exciting ways that together we can turn Canadian wool clip into sustainable products. 🐏
